Westmoore Landing Breaks Ground on a $2.2 Billion New Town Near Huntsville
Developers broke ground on August 31, 2026, on Westmoore Landing, a planned $2.2 billion mixed use community spanning nearly 400 acres near historic Mooresville, Alabama, southwest of Huntsville. At full buildout, the development could deliver more than 3,500 homes, together with commercial space, parks, and a planned K-8 school, on a site modeled after Huntsville’s Village of Providence.

What was farmland west of Mooresville is about to become a new part of Huntsville. Developers broke ground Monday on Westmoore Landing, a $2.2 billion mixed-use development planned along Arrowhead Landing Road near the Interstate 65 and Interstate 565 interchange. The project covers more than 400 acres in the Limestone County portion of Huntsville. The property was annexed into the city in January 2025 and rezoned in December.

The transformation of farmland into a thriving community near the Interstate 65-565 interchange in Limestone County has begun. Developers and Huntsville city officials broke ground Monday on the $2.2 billion Westmoore Landing development on the western edge of the city not far from the historic town of Mooresville. When completed, the development is expected to be home to 3,500 homes of various types, retail, restaurants and other businesses.
$2.2 billion Westmoore Landing housing community now under construction
Ground was broken August 31 on the $2.2 billion housing community in Limestone County, known as Westmoore Landing. The project, located near Mooresville, is a 395-acre, 3,000-unit community modeled after The Village of Providence. The project is being developed by Land Innovations and Rochford Realty & Construction Co., whose representatives say they hope to have the first residents moved in by 2027. However, the complete build-out is expected to take between 10 to 20 years.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Huntsville City Council Member John Meredith spoke at the ceremony. Mooresville Mayor Nikki Sprader and Alabama state Sen. Arthur Orr also attended.

Mooresville is located roughly 20 minutes South of Downtown Huntsville.

An open field near in Mooresville near Interstate 65 is expected to become a mixed-use community with more than 3,500 homes as construction begins on Westmoore Landing. Developers and Huntsville leaders held a groundbreaking ceremony Monday for the $2.2 billion project, which is planned to cover more than 400 acres west of historic Mooresville on Arrowhead Landing Road. Plans call for several housing options, businesses, parks and community gathering spaces. A kindergarten through eighth-grade school is also planned as part of Huntsville’s long-term growth strategy for the surrounding corridor.

It was smooth sailing for two of Huntsville’s most high-profile developments before the Planning Commission on Tuesday night. The Village of Providence type-Westmoore Landing and the $240 million North Village Town Center made their first appearances before the Commission. Both received initial lot approval allowing construction to begin.For the Westmoore Landing, the approval was a bit modest considering what is planned for the nearly 400-acre site recently annexed by the city near the southeast corner of the Interstate 65-565 interchange.

The city council approved a big step towards the construction of a major housing project. On Thursday night, the Huntsville City Council unanimously approved the rezoning of Westmoore Landing, a Providence-style housing development directly east of I-65 and south of Highway 20 and I-565. These nearly 400 acres of farmland were annexed in January, and once all is said and done, development leaders are planning to build around 3,000 homes. One of the developers with Land Innovations, Dan Horwath, believes this unique opportunity is great for those looking to be a part of this growing city.
